Thursday 7 March, 2024

Goulburn-Murray Water (GMW) has removed the blue-green algae warnings from most locations in the Torrumbarry Irrigation Area following a significant decline in algae levels.

The warnings have been removed at the following locations:

  • Ghow (Kow) Swamp
  • The Macorna Main (No.2) Channel System
  • The Pyramid/Box Creek Channel System including the No.6 Channel System
  • The Loddon River from the Kerang Weir Pool to the confluence of the Little Murray River
  • The No.7 Channel between the Loddon River and Reedy Lake
  • Reedy Lake
  • Middle Lake
  • No.1 Lagoon

Warnings remain in place in the Torrumbarry Irrigation Area for the following locations:

  • No.2 Lagoon
  • Gum Lagoon

Blue-green algae warnings were issued for these areas at various times in February this year.

GMW will continue to undertake water quality monitoring and if blue‑green algae reach levels deemed unsafe by national health guidelines, a warning will be issued.
